Andrew Merrick Edit
I moved to Asheville, NC. after several visits to attend Penland School's glass program after being offered a job as Rick Eckerd's glass assistant. A few years of experience later, and with some friends from Penland, a large scale hot glass facility dubbed Great Southern Glassworks was built in what would become the River Arts District. To that end I learned to weld so that we could build and maintain our own equipment. Most glass workers that run their own facilities generally become pretty good welders and machinists out of necessity. So, besides currently operating Steel Star Welding Service as a fully certified structural welder, I have been a studio hot glass artist with a side career in fine wood and steel furniture. I no longer make glass ( a long story, and not by choice), but enjoy my new experiences as an industrial and artistic welder, and am very lucky to be working with some of the best designers and metal artists in the Asheville area. Whether you might want a table for your home or business, or a whole contemporary interior and furnishings designed and custom built to set your space apart, I can do it! If you have have a large scale project requiring architectural renderings, and need a team of wood and steel craftsmen to construct it, Steel Star Welding can put you in touch with the best in their field so you can realize your dreams!
